State agency calls for disaster volunteers
BATON ROUGE - Health officials called for volunteers to help support Louisiana in case of an emergency this hurricane season.
"Volunteers are the backbone of our response to emergencies like hurricanes," said Assistant Secretary for Public Health J.T. Lane.
DHH said Louisiana Volunteers in Action (LAVA) can provide 5,700 active members to assist with mass evacuations and sheltering efforts during a disaster.
If you'd like to volunteer, visit LAVA's homepage.
