A former St. Martin Parish sheriff's deputy has been indicted on charges of simple rape and malfeasance.

Steven Blake Dale of Breaux Bridge resigned from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office in late June following accusations that he forced a 49-year-old Breaux Bridge woman to perform oral sex on him while he was on duty.

The victim said the incident occurred after Dale responded to a disturbance at her home in May.

The 12-person grand jury heard evidence in the case Monday and returned the indictment Wednesday.

If convicted, Dale could face a possible maximum 25-year sentence for simple rape and five years for malfeasance.
