ST. MARTINVILLE - Two Louisiana men who escaped from a St. Martin Parish Correctional Center had a few hours of freedom, but the furlough was not to last as they were caught in a Texas hotel nearly 14 hours later.

According to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office, Robert Lee Chatman III of St. Martinville and Andre L. Gilbert of Homer escaped from the Breaux Bridge Correctional Center Substation around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Ginny Higgins told The Advertiser two escapees were allegedly joined after the escape by Chatman's girlfriend, Amanda Champagne.

Higgins said the two escapees and Champagne were arrested at a Houston hotel around 3:30 p.m.

Chatman and Gilbert now face a charge of simple escape, while Champagne will be booked with aiding and assisting in the escape.
