CLINTON- A special group of kids got a chance to take a ride in the Louisiana State Police helicopter Saturday.

Hundreds of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital patients, family members, and friends spent the day on a huge farm with stocked ponds for the annual Dream Day Foundation Fishin' Galore family event.

"These kids live under stress," said John Engquist previously about his program. He added, "We give them a day to get away with family."

Law enforcement agencies from across the area brought motorcycles, SWAT vehicles, and command stations for the kids to enjoy. Stores also donated materials and time for small construction projects and fisherman took kids on a stocked pond to catch fish.

"I had leukemia," Garrett Berry said while he was enjoying the open water.

Berry's treatments have ended, and he makes fewer visits to the free hospital now.

Patients, and their families, all agree there is nothing like the research facility based in Memphis, TN.

"Without a place like St. Jude, kids would just freak out... Especially when they hear 'MRI' or something," Berry said.

The day in Louisiana's rolling outdoors is in its 19th year.

Also on-going is the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway. In June, a nearly $400,000 home will be raffled off to raise money for St. Jude.
