NEW ORLEANS - The St. John the Baptist Parish Council has awarded contracts to renovate the Parish Courthouse in Edgard and complete a pipeline to St. Charles Parish that will help provide water for St. John during emergencies.

The Times-Picayune reports the courthouse expansion and renovation project was awarded Tuesday to Foret Contracting Group, LLC of Thibodaux for $2.1 million. It's funded partially through a 2009 bond issue. In addition to interior and exterior improvements, a juvenile services wing will be added to the facility.

Construction is set to begin in July.

The council also awarded a $74,460 contract to WGS Contractors, Inc. for completion of the emergency water project. Construction is expected to be completed in 60 days and will start once the Mississippi River water level is below 11 feet.
