GREENSBURG-The St. Helena School Board plans to ask for another extension for submitting a plan to the state detailing how the troubled school system's finances will be fixed.

School administrators already are operating under a 90-day reprieve so they could hire a new superintendent. School board member Alton Travis told The Advocate that he will push for another 30 days extension.

The plan must be submitted to a special state review committee that could appoint a fiscal administrator.

The committee began studying the district after federal court testimony revealed the school system could be headed for bankruptcy. The board hopes to select a new superintendent on May 5.

The fiscal plan is currently due on May 25.
