St. George petition approaching deadline
ST. GEORGE- A last-ditch effort to create a new city in East Baton Rouge Parish is moving forward. Supporters of a new city of St. George say they're on track to have enough signatures on their petition by the May deadline.
They have until the end of May to get 2,700 more signatures, after some of the names on the original petition weren't certified.
In order to get more names, supporters have been fundraising, designating special signing locations, using social media, and knocking on doors to find people who are still interested in adding their names to the petition.
The movement to form a completely new city started after failed attempts to form a break-away school district in East Baton Rouge.
