St. George organizers submit 4,630 additional signatures
BATON ROUGE - A few minutes after 3 p.m. Thursday, organizers of the proposed City of St. George submitted 4,630 signatures to the Registrar of Voters Office.
The signatures will be added to the St. George petition, which the registrar's office deemed short by about 2,600 signatures when it was first submitted last year. By law, the organizers had until Thursday afternoon to submit enough signatures to fill the gap in an attempt to get the proposed city on the ballot.
The petition needs to be signed by about 18,000 people in the impacted area to bring the issue to a vote.
Now, the registrar's office will need to verify the added signatures.
The counter movement, Better Together, also submitted 810 signature withdrawal requests around 4 p.m.
