ST. AMANT - Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputies say a St. Amant man was arrested after detectives learned he had made inappropriate sexual advances toward a 15-year-old girl.

38-year-old Troy Johnson was arrested Wednesday afternoon and booked on one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Deputies say the mother of the teen notified deputies that her daughter had been touched inappropriately by Johnson, who had been living in the home with the victim and her mother before the incident happened. The victim’s mother added that Johnson had asked her daughter if she wanted to have sex with him on several different occasions in the past few months.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Johnson is currently a Tier II sex offender. A Tier II sex offender is classified as someone who has committed a sex offense against a victim who is a minor and comes with a 25-year registration period conducted semi-annually. Johnson was up-to-date and in compliance with this registration with the sheriff’s office.

Johnson has been arrested six times previously on charges stemming from forcible rape, carnal knowledge of juvenile and domestic abuse battery dating back to March of 1997. He served prison time and began registering as a sex offender upon his release in August 2006.

The man was booked into the parish jail on Wednesday afternoon where no bond has been set.
