Spurs take the opener
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Spurs took Game 1 of the NBA's Western Conference finals by shredding the league's top defense.
San Antonio shot 53 percent from the field and set a team playoff record by draining 14 three-pointers in a 105-83 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. The Spurs saw a 17-point, first-quarter lead shrink to six in the second half before an 11-1 run put them ahead by 16 heading into the fourth quarter.
Tony Parker finished with 20 points and nine assists, while Kawhi Leonard added 18 points.
Grizzlies All-Star Zach Randolph missed his first seven shots and scored his only points on a tip-in with 9:26 left in the game. Quincy Pondexter had a team-high 17 points for the Grizzlies, who have until Tuesday night to figure out how to stop the Spurs' offense in San Antonio.
