Spring commencements continue at Southern, LSU

BATON ROUGE - Graduation week continues in Baton Rouge this morning with hundreds of students receiving diplomas on the bluff at Southern University.

Southern's commencement ceremonies began at 10:30. The university awarded degrees to 714 graduates this year, and featured Chief Justice Bernice Johnson as its guest speaker. She's the first African-American chief justice for the state Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, LSU commencement continued with degree ceremonies on the campus today. The university recognized 3,735 students during its main graduation ceremony Thursday.
