Speed, impairment cited in deadly I-12 crash
HAMMOND - Investigators said a man died overnight in a motorcycle crash on I-12 in Tangipahoa Parish because he was speeding and possible impaired.
Louisiana State Police said 46-year-old William Wilbert died after hitting a pickup from behind while headed east on I-12 near LA 3158. Investigators said Wilbert's motorcycle was going at a high rate of speed when it hit the pickup, lost control, and Wilbert was thrown off the bike.
Troopers said Wilbert was wearing an approved helmet, but died as a result of his injuries. Investigators also said they suspect he was impaired, and collected toxicology samples for testing.
State Police said the people in the pickup Wilbert hit were not hurt.
