BATON ROUGE - More than 9,000 people showed up downtown to take part in the half and full races for the Louisiana Marathon.

Ainsley's Angels, an organization that participates in races around the country, was also at the fifth-annual event.

The group is nationwide and gives people who have serious medical conditions an opportunity to be active in races by being pushed in wheelchairs by volunteers.

It's named after 12-year-old Ainsley Rossiter, who was diagnosed with a terminal illness, INAD (Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy) before the age of four.

Ainsley has run 100 races.

Her father, Kim Rossiter is the president of the group and said runners are a unique group of people.

"The running community is special. And once you enter the running community, you learn that very quickly. People are driven by the opportunity to help others," said Rossiter.
