BATON ROUGE - For Spanish Town Mardi Gras parade-goers, it's a time to let loose, have fun and enjoy carnival season.

News Two's own Whitney Vann lead the way as queen of Spanish Town this year.

"Today I've met people from Atlanta, Mississippi, Tennessee and Virginia just for Spanish Town," says Vann.

But Baton Rouge native Heather Hembree didn't have to travel far to get here.

"The people, I've seen them every year, like the floats and stuff," she says.

Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden was spotted throwing beads from one of the floats. However, Holden also faced some tough question from Vann about firing the city's former Police Chief Dewayne White earlier this week.

"I don't discuss personnel matters in public. And all I want people to do is understand how wonderful this day is. What a beautiful queen you are and have a happy Mardi Gras," said Holden.

After that, Vann and the rest of the Spanish Town krewe continued to spread peace, love and beads to anyone who flashed a smile.

The Spanish Town parade started more than thirty years ago.
