Spaceport takes another step
ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO- Being a space tourist is a step closer to reality with the naming of a preferred hotel for the elite roster of passengers of Virgin Galactic.
It's chosen Hotel Encantado de Las Cruces as the place space tourists will stay as they fork out $200,000 for a ride into space.
The flights will take off from Spaceport America about 60 miles north of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
The hotel says its added some high-end suites and services to accommodate the high-rolling space travelers.
The upgrades should boost the hotel from a three-star to a four-star property under the AAA rating system.
The top ranking is five-stars but New Mexico doesn't have any hotels that fit the bill.
A lack of lodging has been an issue for Virgin Galactic founder Richard Branson who even talked about building his own hotel at the spaceport.
