Southern wins 4th straight, tops Alabama State 28-21
BATON ROUGE - Southern began its 3 game home stand with a tough test against Alabama State, but Austin Howard provided the go-ahead score for the Jags in the 4th quarter and Southern won 28-21.
The Jags moved ahead 28-21 in the 4th quarter as Austin Howard ran for a 9 yard touchdown.
The Hornets may have lost 3 straight, but they struck first at Mumford Stadium, getting a 37 yard touchdown run from Malcolm Cyrus to give the Hornets a 7-0 lead.
The Jaguars struck back in the 2nd quarter, first with a field goal and then an 18 yard touchdown pass from Austin Howard to Willie Quinn.
A blocked extra point left the score at 9-7 Jags.
The Jags scored two more field goals and a touchdown to go up 21-14 in the 3rd quarter, but the Hornets answered to tie the game at 21 in the early 4th.
Howard finished with 291 yards through the air and 2 scores, and 55 rushing yards and another touchdown on the ground.
