BATON ROUGE- Students gearing up for classes at Southern University can register and pay for classes online rather than waiting in line.
The school is now using an online system known as Banner. It's the first semester students have not been required to register in-person.
"Pretty much you would come here and wait in a line that could be 18 hours long," Southern student Christopher Williams said.
Today, Williams along with several dozen students, waited in line for help using Banner. Many students say the new system has some kinks.
"The last couple of days the system has been down and that makes it complicated because we don't know it it's messed up on our end or on their end. And we can't get to our schedule to see what we need to do," Southern student Ashley Rankins said.
"I'm actually here to get my billing statement. It was supposed to be on Banner but I haven't seen it yet so I'm just waiting in line to get it," Southern student Vashantonia Thomas said.
The university expects it to take some time for students to get comfortable using Banner.
Students who need help with the new system, or who prefer registering in person, can visit campus during the week or on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Classes at Southern start next Monday.
