BATON ROUGE - Southern University Campus Police arrested a student after authorities said he refused to leave the classroom where he was caught attempting to cheat on an exam.

Malik Collins, 19, was booked on charges of battery on a police officer (two counts), resisting arrest, threatening a public official and disturbing the peace following the incident Monday. 

Police said Collins was asked to leave his class in James Hall by his instructor several times after he was accused of cheating on an exam and began cursing out the instructor. The instructor contacted campus police who responded to the scene and took Collins into custody.

SUPD said Collins cursed at them, refused to give his real identity and threatened the officers repeatedly. Police said Collins pushed an officer when they attempted to remove his cell phone. When officers attempted to get Collins to remain in a seat, he got up, retrieved his cell phone and tried to make a call while kicking the officer trying to restrain him.

Collins indicated to the officers that his grandfather is a lawyer in Alexandria who would get the officers fired, according to police.

He was taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish jail and booked on the above charges.
