Southern's Pro Day finds 'diamond in the rough'
BATON ROUGE - While veteran players like Lee Doss and Dray Joseph still have a good chance to be picked up by an NFL team this May, Southern's Pro Day found a name not regularly featured on a fall Saturday on The Bluff.
Rashaun Allen only registered nine receptions this season for the Jags, but "Big Tight" as he's known by teammates and coaches came through with some amazing numbers Wednesday to grab the attention of NFL scouts.
The Cleveland, Ohio native benched 225 pounds 24 times, posted a 39-inch vertical leap, and ran a 4.6-40 yard dash at 250 pounds to impress scouts, coaches and teammates.
"I feel like there is no ceiling for me," said Allen. "I think a lot of teams saw the best in me today."
Former Jaguar quarterback and leader Dray Joseph also had a good day throwing the ball, according to several scouts.
His accuracy stood out, and there to catch almost every pass was fellow graduating senior Lee Doss.
Both athletes could be picked up in the late rounds of this May's NFL Draft.
