Southern men's and women's hoops fall in SWAC Tourney finals
HOUSTON - The Southern men's and women's basketball teams lost in their respective SWAC title games, both ending their seasons one game short of a championship.
The women never had a lead in their championship game and fell to Alabama State 73-55.
Meanwhile, the men had a lead late in their game against Texas Southern, only to watch it slip away as the Jags fell 62-58.
The men held a one point with 27 seconds remaining, but Trelun Banks fouled Malcolm Riley hard on a fast break.
The referees ruled a flagrant 2, giving the Tigers 2 free throws and the ball while Banks was ejected from the game.
The Tigers took the lead and a desperation three by Tre Lynch fell short to end the Jags season with a disappointing loss.
