
The Jaguars defeated Fort Valley 55-23. The homecoming crowd of 24,500 saw quite an offensive and defensive show.
The Jags got on the board first capitalizing off one of nine turnovers forced by the defense for the night. Bryant Lee found LaQuinton Evans for a 12 yards strike, 7-0.
Fort Valley marched 50 yards down the field to tie the game with 6:25 to go in the first quarter. The Wildcats then took their first and only lead of the night, a 20 yard field goal giving Fort Valley a 10-7 lead.
Southern then turned to Gary Hollimon for the "wildcat formation" who took it 67 yards to the endzone. With just 1:37 before half, Hollimon received the call again, which they are calling "The Jaguar." This time a 24-yard run. 21-10 Jags led.
The Jag's defense stepped up once again. Andre' Coleman had his first career pick six. Southern took a 28-10 lead into the locker room.
After half, Fort Valley moved the ball, 64 yard drive capped off by a 3 yard Brand Anderson rushing touchdown. 28-16.
Byron Williams got the call for the Jags with 8:02 to go in the 3rd quarter. He scored from 6 yards out. Southern led 35-16 at that point.
Bryan Threat then scored from one yard out. 41-16.
Fort Valley scored with 3:30 to go in the third a 32 yard Terrance Ransom to Demario Barber connection. 41-23.
Bryant Lee found Juamorris Stewart twice one for 28 yards and the other for 14.
The Jags win 55-23. They play Thursday night hosting Prairie View.
