The Southern Jaguars football team has responded well to the coaching change, possibly fired up and playing for their departed coach Stump Mitchell.

All three phases of the Jaguar football team is contributing early, as Southern's Jaleel Richardson raced 86 yard on the opening kickoff for a 7-0 Southern lead to get the game started.

Special teams kicked in their effort as fullback Lee Mitchell blocked the Tigers punt and handing the ball over to the offense at the JSU 25.

One play later, on Southern's first play from scrimmage quarterback Dray Joseph found receiver Mike Berry for the 25-yard touchdown.

The Jaguar defense then went into action picking off a JSU pass for great field position once again.
