The Southern Jaguar football team has had it's chances against Prairie View, however they have failed to convert critical third downs and fumbled away scoring chances, keeping the Panthers in the game.

Prairie View scored on their opening possession, marching 58 yards in six plays in just over two minutes of action. Panther QB De'Auntre Smiley connected with Spencer Nelson on a 17 yard swing pass for the first points of the game.

Southern's first possession was cut short at the 24 yard line of PVU when quarterback Dray Joseph fumbled the snap and the Panthers recovered.

The Jaguars third possession also ended any touchdown threats, when Joseph fielded a bad snap and lost 13 yards moving the line of scrimmage from the 8 back to the 21. The Jags were able to salvage a 23 yard field goal from Matt Hill to get on the board at 7-3.

The offense was driving and moving the ball, when running back Sylvester Nzekwe failed to convert a third and one with a cut toward the endzone, instead his lateral movement on the line resulted in a tackle for a loss, and the Panthers took over.

Prairie View marched 75 yards in eleven plays, aided by a 36 yard scramble by Smiley down to the Southern one yard line. Two plays later, running back Courtney Brown leaped up and over the line for the second touchdown of the game giving the Panthers a 14-3 lead.
