The Stump Mitchell era is off to a good start over at Southern University.  The Jaguars overcame a 27-16 deficit and scored 21 unanswered points to defeat Delaware State 37-27 in the SWAC/MEAC Challenge in Orlando.

Mitchell pulled starting quarterback Jeremiah McGinty after the first half of play.  McGinty went 7 of 16 for 74 yards and a TD.  His backup Dray Joseph fared better.  The freshman went 12 of 21 for 162 yards and a TD.  He also scored on a 5 yard QB keeper with eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 4.

A 64 yard punt return by Corey Cushingberry gave the Jags the lead for good with just under five minutes remaining in the contest.
