Southern athletics NCAA postseason ban lengthened
The NCAA extended it's postseason ban for all Southern Jaguar athletic programs in the wake of a continued lack of sufficient paperwork detailing academic progress.
The University released a statement earlier today after they were informed the postseason play ban that has been in place since 2013 will be continued through November of 2015.
"We received notification from the NCAA Subcommittee on Data Collection that Southern will remain in the unusable data probationary ban and remains ineligible to participate in postseason competition", the school said in an emailed statement.
"We are currently developing our response to the NCAA notification letter. The committee possesses the authority to lift the postseason ban at any time and we are closely engaged with NCAA representatives in an attempt to have ban lifted as quickly as possible."
The NCAA can repeal the ban at any time should Southern meet the requirements to prove historical academic data on it's previous student-athletes.
