Source: La. Tech hires Dykes to replace Dooley
Louisiana Tech has hired Arizona Wildcats offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes to replace Derek Dooley as head football coach, a person familiar with the hiring told The Associated Press.
Dykes has coached on the college level for 15 years and has been with Arizona since 2007, serving as both the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. In 2009, Arizona won eight games before losing to Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl. The Wildcats averaged 384.5 yards and 27.4 points per game.
A formal announcement is scheduled for sometime Wednesday, the source said.
Derek Dooley left Louisiana Tech last week to replace Lane Kiffin at the University of Tennessee.
