CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Republican soul searching begins in earnest this week as GOP officials from across the nation come together for the first time since their party's November shellacking.

There is broad agreement that the Republican Party needs to undergo fundamental changes to remain competitive. But there is no clear path forward.

And there are signs that Republicans gathered in Charlotte, N.C., for their annual winter meeting are as divided as ever.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Preibus faces a re-election test later in the week. The 40-year-old chairman is under intense pressure to improve the GOP brand to attract more women and Hispanics, while not upsetting his party's most passionate voters.

Priebus is widely expected to win re-election, despite a challenge from Maine National Committeeman Mark Willis.
