Sorrento told options for limited police protection
SORRENTO - With just five days remaining until liability insurance coverage for the Sorrento Police Department ends, town officials are quickly running out of options to continue police protection for residents.
Options presented to council members at a special meeting Wednesday were to accept the lone insurance company willing to cover the department or to enter into a six-week contract with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office.
Town officials must hold another special meeting before Tuesday's deadline to vote on the new insurance provider and to possibly amend the town budget.
Council members also unanimously voted to authorize the mayor to discuss police protection with the sheriff's office.
