SORRENTO - The mayor of Sorrento's father could have a shot at taking his son's spot.

Wilson Longanecker Sr. will face Mike Lambert in a runoff next month after this weekend's election yielded no majority winner.

Wilson Longanecker Jr., the current mayor, lost his bid for a spot on the town council after a tumultuous tenure as the city's leader. Longanecker Jr. was embroiled in scandal after he disappeared for months and never made contact with council members or town workers. He cited medical issues for his absence.

Voters think the results show the need for a change.

"I think it says that the people of Sorrento had enough, I think they saw that he didn't do his job and they wanted him out," said Ivy Alberes, a resident in the town.

Now Longanecker Sr. will get another shot to keep the family name on the mayor's desk, though residents say he or his opponent, Mike Lambert, will have a tough job of rebuilding Sorrento's integrity.

"I think the people just finally got enough of it, it's embarrassing to be honest with you, I hate to put it like that, but there are too many good people in Sorrento to let the rest of the state of Louisiana look at us, it's time for a change and I hope it happens," said resident Bill Lambert.

The runoff will be held on May 4.
