Son accused of setting father's home on fire
BATON ROUGE - Police arrested a Baton Rouge man Saturday after his father said the man set his house on fire while he was inside.
Investigators accused 49-year-old Elton Barrow of aggravated arson.
Firefighters said they were called out to the burning home on Avenue G just after midnight Saturday. When they arrived they said Barrow's father told them his son had poured oil into his window and lit it on fire. The 78-year-old man took firefighters to the room he said Barrow had set on fire and showed them the damage.
Police said they also saw the victim had a large knife in the waistband of his pants. When they asked him why he had it, he said it was "because I afraid of him."
Officers contacted Barrow and questioned him about the fire. They said Barrow acted very intoxicated and denied setting the fire.
Investigators booked him into the parish jail where he was given a $100,000 bond.
