Soldiers coming home
MONROE- A weekend welcome-home event is set in Monroe for members of the Louisiana National Guard's 528th Engineer Battalion.
More than 150 soldiers are returning to friends and family after deploying to Kuwait for construction and engineering projects in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Some of the soldiers went to Afghanistan to manage units that fell under their command.
The Guard notes in a news release that the 528th Engineer Battalion previously deployed to Afghanistan in 2004-2005. The unit has also responded to numerous storms and disasters, including Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.
Saturday's event is set for noon at Monroe Regional Airport's CenturyLink Hangar.
