BATON ROUGE - A St. Mary Parish soldier's dog tag lost nearly 70 years ago on a beach at Normandy is being given to the National World War II Museum.

A French man with a metal detector found John Mack's metal ID tag. He got in touch with the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana, which got in touch with the Louisiana lieutenant governor's office.

The lieutenant governor's chief of staff tracked down Mack's family. The lieutenant governor's office says the family plans to present it to the museum on Saturday before the state bicentennial military parade through New Orleans' French Quarter and Warehouse District.

A military veteran in the parade will carry the dog tag to the museum.
