Slidell man killed in I-10 crash
ST. TAMMANY PARISH - A Slidell man was killed yesterday evening when a woman who may have been under the influence of illegal substances struck him while he was fixing a flat tire on I-10. vehicle.
Around 7:40p.m. last night Eric Harrison, 49, of Slidell was fixing a flat tire on his Ford F-250 truck on the right shoulder of the I-10 west on-ramp from I-12. While fixing the flat tire, Harrison was struck by a 1999 Kia car driven by Desiree Lafleur, 27, of Metairie.
Harrison was pronounced dead on the scene.
Several passengers in both vehicles sustained severe injuries. Lafleur, the driver of the Kia had minor injuries, Susie Singletary, 43, of Slidell, her passenger, suffered severe injuries.
Harrison's passengers in the Ford F-250, Patrick Stogner and his 3-year-old son sustained moderate injuries. None of the passengers and drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. All of the injured were taken to Slidell Memorial Hospital.
According to Louisiana State Police, Lafleur is suspected to have been under the influence of illegal substances and a blood test is pending at the LSP crime lab. Lafluer was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, DWI with child endangerment and careless operation. She was book at the St. Tammany Parish Jail in Covington.
