Sleet, freezing rain, snow moving over northern Louisiana
NEW ORLEANS - Sleet, freezing rain and snow are falling over a large portion of northern Louisiana.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Mario Valverde in Shreveport says the freezing precipitation will continue along the Interstate 20 corridor into the nighttime hours.
Valverde says the sleet is sticking to the ground and with the temperature below freezing driving is becoming hazardous.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation on Monday closed Interstate 220 around north Bossier City and Shreveport and Interstate 49 inside the city of Shreveport.
In Ouachita Parish, several I-20 on and off ramps are closed.
School Districts across north Louisiana are closed and Louisiana Tech, Grambling State and Louisiana-Monroe canceled classes.
State government offices in 26 parishes are also closed.
