PORT ALLEN- Former mayor Deedy Slaughter said her loss Saturday night is part of life, and she will move on after defeat.

"I am not disappointed at all," Slaughter told WBRZ News 2. "When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. So, we are going to continue to press on," she said.

Slaughter believes she was on the receiving end of bad luck from the very beginning.

"From the beginning, as it was said, I took office and was never given that fair opportunity from day one; things were against me, but that is a part of life," she said. "I'll always be a woman of faith, courage, and determination is my attitude."

Slaughter lost to Richard Lee. Lee had 58% of the vote, Slaughter had 33%.

Just more than 2400 people voted in Saturday's election, 2500 voted in the recall election that caused Slaughter to lose her job as mayor and have to run for election in November.
