ST. AMANT - Authorities said a skull found in a wooded section of Ascension Parish this weekend was confirmed to be a St. Amant man reported missing in 2008.
Lt. Col. Bobby Webre with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said additional remains were found at the site today. Among them was a driver's license belonging to Robert Alexis, 47, of St. Amant, which anthropologists at the LSU FACES Lab used to identify the remains.
Webre said Alexis was reported missing in 2008 by his family. The next day investigators found his vehicle in a ditch on Beco Road, and a witness said they saw Alexis walking away from the vehicle toward Highway 429. However, investigators weren't able to find Alexis.
This weekend, hunters in a wooded area near Hwys. 429 and 22 found a human skull and called the sheriff's office. Investigators combed the area, and found the other remains.
