Ski boat hits tree; girl, 6, in critical condition
KILLIAN - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a 6-year-old girl is in critical condition with head injuries after a ski boat crashed into a tree on the Natalbany River bank.
Enforcement Division spokesman Adam Einck says the girl was among five people in the 22-foot ski boat, which was towing two juveniles in a tube on Sunday near Killian.
He says the boat operator's foot was broken and the other five passengers suffered minor injuries.
Einck says a helicopter took the girl to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge.
The department is investigating the wreck. As standard procedure, agents took blood from the operator. Blood tests to learn whether the operator had been drinking or taking drugs will take up to four weeks.
