Six men cited for gill net violation in Assumption
BATON ROUGE - Six men have been cited for gill net violations in Assumption Parish.
The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division says agents cited 62-year-old Roger Gros, 57-year-old Brent Zeller, 54-year-old Gary Cutchall, 43-year-old William Shirah, 48-year-old Ricky Daley and 43-year-old Randy Hebert all of Pierre Part, for leaving gill nets unattended. Agents also cited Gros for failing to have required markings on the gill nets.
Agents were on patrol Thursday on Lake Verrett when they found several unattended shad gill nets. Agents then saw the subjects travel by vessel and begin tending to the nets.
Leaving gill nets unattended and failing to have the required markings each brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail for each offense.
