TUSHKA, Okla. - Dawn is shedding light on the damage to a southeast Oklahoma town where two elderly sisters were killed when a tornado struck.
Salvation Army Capt. Ric Swartz says the women killed by the twister in Tushka late Thursday were in their 70s. Their names have not been released.
Tushka Public School Principal Matt Simpson says the twister completely destroyed at least five school buildings. The campus is littered with downed trees and bricks blown from the buildings.
High winds associated with the same storm system killed four people in central and western Arkansas early Friday. Authorities say two were killed in Garland County, one in Pulaski County and one in Bald Knob.
As the sun rose Friday, the storms were moving across Tennessee, Louisiana and Mississippi.
