BATON ROUGE - There's a new way to track how children are growing, and for the first time, all the data is in one central location.

The Louisiana Kids' Dashboard website, launched by the Governor's Children's Cabinet, tracks statistics about eduction, health care and safety. It was developed as a resource to show where the state stands on child development, and how to make things better.

Tiffany Simpson, the executive director of the Children's Cabinet, said this site will help monitor the state's progress in real time.

"All these things are very important for children," said Simpson. "I think once parents know that and communities know that, then we'll really be able to move the needle and make some progress."

Louisiana Kids' Dashboard shows 16 indicators, divided among three categories: Health Care, Education and Well-Being. Each indicator presents the baseline, current levels in Louisiana and a goal.

Graphs show up-to-date information about indicators including graduation rates and birth weights by parish. Interactive links teach parents how to prepare their children for kindergarten and provide important nutrition information.
