Single vehicle crash on Hwy 190 leaves one person dead
POINTE COUPEE PARISH- Authorities say one person has died in a single vehicle crash Sunday afternoon.
According to State Police, the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Hwy 190 west of LA Hwy 413 in Pointe Coupee Parish.
Troopers say 64-year-old Billy J. Bookman of Opelousas was traveling eastbound on Hwy 190 in 2003 Jaguar. For reasons still under investigation, Bookman's vehicle ran off the roadway and struck several trees, authorities said.
Deputies stated that Bookman was unrestrained at the time of the crash and his injuries were fatal. Routine toxicology samples were submitted to the Baton Rouge Crime Lab for analysis.
The accident remains under investigation.
