Shuttered community center's director fired
BATON ROUGE- The director of a city community center shut down because of fire code violations has been fired his attorney told WBRZ News 2 Wednesday.
Carl Slaughter plans to appeal his firing attorney Jill Craft added. Slaughter had been the director of the Jewel J. Newman Center.
Fire inspectors said the center had a number of violations, including blocked exits. The center was closed last week.
Councilwoman Chauna Banks-Daniel pushed for Slaughter to be terminated. She blamed him for the issues while Slaughter said the councilwoman ignored his requests to make repairs.
While the shelter is closed, there is an event scheduled Saturday.
