Shunick search continues after EBR dive search
LAFAYETTE - Search crews fanned out again today near Lafayette after an East Baton Rouge Parish dive team didn't find any new evidence in the search for missing college student Mickey Shunick.
Investigators called in the dive team after examining sonar images taken during a sweep of water where Shunick's bike was found. Cpl. Paul Mouton said the images initially sparked the sonar operator's interest, but dive teams found no evidence of value.
Shunick disappeared May 19 after leaving a friend's home on her bike. It was found beneath the Whiskey Bay Bridge portion of I-10 this past weekend. Investigators believe it was dumped there by somebody, and said the rear wheel was damaged.
Police sent the bike to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
A $25,000 reward has been offered for information which helps police find Shunick. Anyone with information can call (337) 291-8633.
