State wildlife and fisheries officials say shrimp season in a part of the state's outside waters will reopen April 21 at 6 a.m.
State biologists say small white shrimp are no longer present in the area, commonly known by harvesters as the "three mile."
Small white shrimp remain in state waters west of the Atchafalaya River Ship Channel to the western shore of Freshwater Bayou Canal. That area will remain closed until further notice.
The wildlife and fisheries commission will consider the opening dates for the 2010 spring inshore shrimp season at its May 6 meeting.
