Shreveport man hurt in plane crash
DERIDDER - The pilot of a small plane that crashed on Sunday is recovering in a hospital in Rapides Parish.
Beauregard Parish Chief Deputy Joe Toler says James Murrell of Shreveport has broken bones, a punctured lung and cuts to his face.
He says Murrell was pulled from the wreckage after his plane crashed around 3:45 p.m. Sunday south of DeRidder. A relative told deputies on Monday that he is expected in time to recover fully.
A man who lives about a half-mile from the crash tells KPLC TV that he saw smoke coming from the plane, which appeared to be flying very low. He says it sounded as if the engine was cutting out.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
