Shreveport cop suspended after gun found in airport luggage
SHREVEPORT - A Shreveport police officer has been placed on paid administrative leave after security officials at Shreveport Regional Airport found a handgun in his luggage.
A statement from the Shreveport Police Department said Officer James Bass was detained Saturday morning after Transportation Security Administration authorities found the handgun.
Bass was off-duty at the time. He was issued a summons by the Shreveport airport's security division on a misdemeanor charge of illegal carrying of weapons.
While airport security officials investigate the misdemeanor case, Shreveport police spokesman Bill Goodin said the police department will conduct an inquiry to determine whether Bass violated department policies.
