LIVINGSTON - Finger pointing and name calling erupted at a meeting of the Livingston Parish Council Monday night over a road repair program and the financing for it.

The parish has millions locked up because the council has not agreed on how to spend it. But, the council tabled the program because the parish might have overspent more than $1 million on road repairs last year.

"Y'all have treated my like crap over here," Parish President Layton Ricks told the council.

"You seem to think you were elected 'parish dictator' instead of 'parish president,'" Councilman Jim Norred responded.

The meeting was invaded by a group wearing matching yellow shirts from the Chinquapin Community in Maurepas.

"We have listened to your dog and pony show every two weeks," resident Marie Dorchies said.

Her community accused its councilman, Ronald Sharp, of ignoring pleas to fix its road for years.

"I hate to say this but we are not being represented. So we must represent ourselves," A.J. Mabile said.

Sharp refused an interview.

Even when the parish decides to go ahead with the roads program, there's still no guarantee the group at Monday's meeting will have its road fixed.

The council will discuss the road program in two weeks.
