Shots fired in New Orleans Walmart parking lot, no injuries reported
NEW ORLEANS - Three shots were fired by an Orleans Parish deputy as he was in pursuit of a shoplifter at a Walmart in Algiers Tuesday afternoon.
The sheriff's office says the incident happened in the 4000 block of Behrman place before 3 p.m. when a deputy working detail at Walmart spotted a shoplifter.
He began chasing the man and fired three shots. The deputy later told the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office that he became concerned about his safety when the suspect reached for his own pocket.
No one was shot in the incident, and there were no injuries reported.
A witness at the scene told WWL-TV her vehicle was hit by a stray bullet from the incident, but she was uninjured.
The suspect was taken into custody, but his identity has yet to be released. The incident remains under investigation.
More details are expected later this evening.
