Shoplifter arrested after 28-mile pursuit
BATON ROUGE- A slew of law enforcement helped tackle a suspected shoplifter who tried to evade authorities in three parishes Monday.
The unnamed man was apprehended at the intersection of Lee and Nicholson in Baton Rouge following a pursuit from Gonzales. Police in Gonzales said the man stole from a store in the Tanger Outlet Mall and was followed by Gonzales Police into Iberville Parish and eventually East Baton Rouge.
Iberville Parish deputies arrested the suspect in East Baton Rouge and turned the man over to Gonzales Police, the department's spokesperson, Charlotte Guedry, said.
A number of officers filled the parking lot of a gas station at the intersection in Baton Rouge where the pursuit ended.
Authorities said the man left the shopping center and took Highway 30 into Iberville Parish and continued on it until it became Nicholson in East Baton Rouge. Officers from Gonzales, St. Gabriel and Iberville where involved in the pursuit as it entered East Baton Rouge, Guedry said.
Details about the suspect have not been released.
