CENTRAL - People are encouraged to support locally-owned businesses this weekend by shopping and eating at homegrown businesses.

This Saturday is Small Business Saturday, a day set aside between Black Friday and Cyber Monday to encourage shoppers to spend their holiday money at local mom-and-pop stores.

"It's absolutely a good thing to always shop local. It keeps all the local owners here and keeps their businesses going," said Carlton LeGrange, owner of Carlton's Crawfish Farming & Catering.

Businesses participate with sales, specials and door-buster deals. It's all to help communities grow.

"We need to work to keep our businesses strong and healthy, our small businesses to continue to grow a strong community," Liz Kirkindoll, owner of a Flax Fabrics, said.

Small business owners say holiday shopping accounts for nearly 20-percent of their yearly sales.
